SIMPLES - Week 3 - Ombre blues

We're on to week 3 in Crumpet's SIMPLES - Nail Art from Muggle to Mastery and we are doing ombres. Ombres is a super confusing word in the nail art world and I don't always get it right myself. Technically as Crumpter expains " Ombre literally means shadow, in French.  An ombre mani, therefore, is one where the nails move through varying SHADES of the same colour, from light to dark, or dark to light, across the entire hand."

So here is my ombre look, I found it really hard to find five shades not only in the same primary colour family but also in the same tones. I seemed to be able to find four easily but not the elusive fifth until I can across this range. On my Thumb is Cate Ruby Sky, my index is Zoya Rocky, middle finger is Zoya Robyn, ring finger is Zoya Breezi and my pinkie is Zoya Edie. I love the look of a true ombre design, what do you think?

Then of course me being me meant I had to jazz it up a bit so I placed white dots down one side of each nail and painted within the dot in shades from the design. I really just can't help myself and it's not that I'm against plain nails, I actually like plain colour too but I love playing around with designs :). Why not join this challenge too, if you're new it's a great way to start and if you're not so new it's good to go back to basics.

Hope your day is a fabulous one, Tx.

Aussie Nails Monday Challenge - Ombre

The term ombre always seems a little confusing and I know that what is an official gradient (where colours are sponged and overlap into each other) in the nail world I always think of as ombre. An ombre in the nail world is having all 5 nails in the same colour family going from darkest to lightest.

Of course for mine I chose green :) I'm not overly happy with the last two, my ring finger photographed lighter than it looks in real life. I also apologise for my overly oily fingers :)

While I'm on apologies I do have to admit that the last couple of weeks posts have had some pretty awful writing in them. In one post in particular I lost count of the number of times I used gorgeous. In my defense I was having a rotten week with very little sleep due to our dog having seizures. I kept painting my nails as it was something to do in the middle of the night while waiting for the dog to recover enough from his seizure that I could go to bed without worrying. I was going to edit them but I do believe that whether it be a personal blog or a nail blog, what you've blogged is a reflection of what is happening in your life. So I didn't want to change what was written, as it is just me as I was at the time :)

Ok enough chatter and onto the photos!!

Colour used

Thumb - OPI Jade is the New Black
Index - China Glaze - Four Leaf Clover
Middle finger - Essie Turquoise and Cacaos
Ring finger - OPI Green Gargantuan Grape
Pinkie - butter London Fiver

Please check out the fabulous designs the other Aussie's have come up with :)

Ombre Nails

This is my first attempt and second attempt at doing ombre nails. They were trickier than the youtube clips allowed me to think they wold be :)

First attempt above, I think my first mistake was doing it at night with colours too similar. I ended up with more deep orange than bright orange and boy was clean up messy! I used Zoya Arizona and Essie Snap Happy.

The second try I taped my fingers so cleanup was a breeze. I used Lime Crime Lavendairy and Once in a Blue Mousse. I think I probably ended up with too much lavender and need to practice more but they turned out ok for a second attempt :). Can at least cross that off my must try list for now.

Of course I had to add a little sparkle and gave them a quick coat of China Glaze Fairy Dust, it's an awesome polish and one of my must have polishes.

Have a happy Tuesday.

Ombre Nails

I'be been dying to try one of these out, I've just had so much trouble deciding which colours to use. I'm looking forward to doing Christmas nails next week so yesterday I decided to just go for it and I love it! Purple is on of my favourite nail colours and the graduating colours look fab.

Of course once I'd done this one of my lemmings arrived in the post so I'm not too sure this look will last to long. Are you like that? As soon as I decide I need to try something I immediately change my nails whether they need doing or not :).

Colours chosen:

Thumb - Essie Lilacism
Pointer - Essie She's Picture Perfect
Middle - Opi - Do you Lilac it?
Ring - China Glaze Spontaneous
Pinkie - China Glaze - Grape Pop

Have a happy Tuesday!
