Powder Perfect Isolde X design

Hello readers :) I know shock of horrors I'm wearing pink. You know I'm not a pink fan but I do really like this pastel pink. Isolde is a creme base polish with tiny silver particles throughout. I paired it up with a England Merlin and did the cross design on my middle fingers. This is kind of a nice palette cleanser for a day off from wearing lots of bright colours lately.

Emily de Molly Un-named striping tape design

Hi Everyone, sorry it's been quiet around here, I plan to do a post tomorrow to explain everything. For today I have one from my archives, it's a yet to be released and named Emily de Molly with a gold striping tape design. I was going to save it until Emily de Molly was close to re-opening after maternity leave but I wanted to share something with you as it's been so quiet.

Kester Black - Laguna review and swatches

Today's review is of Kester Black's Laguna. This is a beautiful deep teal super glossy creme. The quality of the polish is just fantastic and so easy to use. Kester Black have rounded brushes which I find really helps with application. I know brushes are a personal choice but this brush would have to be my favourite to use. The rich teal is heavily pigmented and I'm wearing just 2 thin coats. I did add top coat for protection but without the top coat the formula is super glossy. Another thing I was really impressed with was that it did not stain my nails at all. Teal is notorious for leaving stains behind, but Laguna was easily removed with no staining.  I've taken photos under artificial light and in direct sunlight, I have noted under each photo which light was used.

I love that Kester Black is Australian made and the quality of the polish is very high. All Kester Black polishes are 5 free, vegan and cruelty free. I had to add some nail art to this beautiful teal, I painted my middle and ring finger white, used top coat, waited until it was dry and made a criss cross pattern with striping tape. I then carefully painted the nail and pulled the tape off quickly but gently with my tweezers. I like the end result and this felt like the perfect polish to wear for the first day of Autumn.

Sea Siren Pantone 2014 Collection - Triangle mani tutorial

To celebrate Sea Siren's release of the Pantone 2014 Collection I've used the three cremes in a nail design. The gorgeous bright purple is Code Purple, the lavender is Tranquility and the pink is Gossip. I finally remember to take photos of the striping tape method I use to create the triangles.

Firstly you start with 3 evenly spaced horizontal lines on striping tape.

Next you place 3 pieces on the diagonal starting from just a little off the centre.

Lastly you place another 3 pieces in the reverse to how you did above. I have relatively small nail beds so you may find you need to use 4 pieces of tape.

Next you grab a nail art brush and after pressing down on the tape to make sure you won't have any seepage, you carefully fill in the triangle sections.

Holiday Colours - Crumpet's Nail Tarts Christmas Challenge

All the christmas colours! I do love the striping tape triangles so had to use them again for this one. This time I just couldn't get it right and don't know exactly what I was doing wrong. Of course I actually remembered to take photos but there is no use in using them as it took a lot of adjustment on the nail to ensure every shape was a triangle. I'll just write it down as too tired and try and do a tutorial for you again at another time. The gorgeous base colour red is a England's Perceval, I just love the colour and really need to find it in a creme finish. The glitter is butter London's Chancer. The gold is Zoya Ziv and the green Zoya Holly, the us actually maroon triangles that aren't showing up very well that are OPI The One That Got Away.

Neon Orly Glow stick Chevron

I'm loving the warmer months and being able to pull out the neons. Orly Glowstick would have to be up there with my favourite neons. I'm also really loving Zoya Kelly at the moment as a change from using black all the time. It is the perfect charcoal grey and works really well in nail art as an alternative to black as you don't have any of the streaking issues you often find with black. For the chevron design I used striping tape down the middle of my nails and taped both sides at an angle before filling them in with nail polish on a nail art brush. Unfortunately the bleeding tape bled a little and that's where the random red shadows come from. It is fiddly to use striping tape but it created amazing designs and I think it's worth it. This overall look is fun and I adore the pop from Orly Glowstick.

piCture pOlish - Electric Dream review

A little break from the pink and blue as Monday is piCture Polish review day. Today I have the gorgeous Electric Dream to share with you. I may be showing my age but I haven't been able to stop singing, "we'll always be together, however far it seems, we'll always be together, together in electric dreams" in my head since I applied this beauty. It was a song from the movie Short Circuit and I loved it when I was little.

 Ok onto the polish! This beauty is a real cross between, coral, pink, red and neon pink! It's a colour shifter and depending on what light you have it in will determine what colour it shows as. Most often for me it was coral in the inside light. The photo below is a great example of how in the sun it looks like a neon pink. The polish is packed full of gold shimmer and even has holo particles. It was a dream to apply, dried super quickly with a matte finish. I have used top coat in all my photos. The colour has a good opaqueness and could be done in 2 coats but as you know I like to do 3 ;). I had to do a little art, so chose to use black white and silver to compliment Electric Dream and make the colour pop. I sectioned off diamond shapes with striping tape and applied polish with a nail art brush. I carefully removed tape and used top coat to finish it off. I added 3 little dome black studs on my ring finger to complete the look. This polish is a stunner and another unique polish to my collection. I can see it getting a lot of wear through summer.

piCture pOlish - Whimsy review

This week I have the stunning Whimsy by piCture pOlish to review for you. I've loved all the polishes I've reviewed so far but this may be my favourite. It is a gorgeous bright aqua blue, packed full of golden shimmer. It practically glows on the nail and I can't stop looking at it. I am wearing three thin coats and it applied like a dream with quick drying time. I had to do an accent finger so I use striping tape to tape off sections and used complementary blues and a gold. I love the final look almost as much as I love this polish. I can see I will be wearing it a lot and I love that it's unique in my collection.

EmilydeMolly Steeling Diamonds

Steeling Diamonds is another creme glitter stunner by EilydeMolly. In a gorgeous blue base that EmilydeMolly calls a steel blue it is packed with grey matte hexes and squares, white matte diamonds, small hexes and large hexes and for a wonderful pop of colour there is bright blue holo small and large hexes. I am wearing two coats over a blue base and application was easy. I tip bottles of glitter polish upside down for as long as possible before using them as I find the larger pieces of glitter come out easily this way.

For the accent finger I used a white base and taped off sections with striping tape to form the diamond shapes. The silver polish is Zoya Trixie.

I love the end result :)

Playing with Striping Tape

Striping tape is a contradiction, it is one of the best tools for nail art but also one of the tools that is the biggest pain to use! You need to go into any nail art involving striping tape with a lot of patience and a good set of tweezers. I apply tape with my fingers but you can also use tweezers. The important thing is to make sure you have really stuck it well to the nail with no ridges or bumps for polish to seep through. I then paint my colour and count to 10 before pulling the tape off with tweezers. For this look I used a base of Zoya Richelle, I top coated and let dry. I then applied my tape and a coat of OPI - Jade is the new Black. I love the final look but did swear at the striping tape a couple of times ;).

Mosaic Nail Art

I really like this style, it was fiddly but I'm pleased with the final look. I started with a base of China Glaze I'm not Lion, then two coats of top coat as this stop the colours from looking bumpy. I gave it time to dry fully as  when using striping tape you don't want to pull any of the base coat off. Then I taped randomly with striping tape and filled in the gaps with a small nail art brush. One more coat of top coat and it's done.

Now onto the nails

My second Blue nails for Autism. This looked far cooler in my head and lost a little something in translation. There are actually three different blues striped under the top blue but they don't show that well :( Overall I like the look it's just not what I pictured. Can I also just say a big UGH to striping tape, it can create the most awesome designs but it's such a pain to work with!
