Grace-full Nail Polis - I Wonder... and the story behind it

I ended up with one more Wave of Polish polish from Grace-full (me) - I had the urge to write, I don't want sympathy just to continue to raise awareness of how life is for bereaved parents. Of course I then needed a polish to match, I think a hot pink represents the whole life cycle of a girl. There are 8 bottles of this one named I Wonder.... it is a hot pink linear holo

I Wonder…

I wonder if you know
That not only were we looking forward to having Grace in our lives but so were her brother, her grandparents, her great grandparent, her aunts and uncles and especially all her cousins.

I wonder if you know
That we'd decorated a nursery with excitement and filled it with love, dreams and possibilities of what was to come.

I wonder if you know
That we planned life around our new baby. That the house we lived in was chosen as it was perfect for our two children. That our car was made ready for two children and that the school we chose for Zac was because we could walk with our baby and not worry about her waking.

I wonder if you know
That we were preparing Zac to be a big brother. That we'd bought Christmas presents for our baby so he would learn the baby would get gifts too. That we'd spent weekend mornings in our bed explaining to him that soon there'd be four in our bed not just three.

I wonder if you know
That we were already looking forward to our baby's future. That we wanted to see those first steps, that first birthday and everyone after. That we'd thought about her first day of school, her big birthdays and one day her wedding.

I wonder if you know
When you say 'she was just a baby', 'we could have another', 'at least you have Zac' and now 'hasn't it been long enough?' that we didn't just lose a baby we lost a whole life we'd planned. A whole person whose baby years, toddler years, school years, teen years and adulthood we were so looking forward to.

I hope one day you will know
We lost so much more than you could ever believe possible, so please know we didn't 'just lose a baby', she could never have been replaced and as wonderful as Zac is, he is his own special unique person who is not a consolation prize for his sister. I hope you know we didn't just lose the newborn stage, we lost the past, the present and our future and a human being full of possibilities whom we already loved more than life.

Wave of Polish - last pregnancy and infant loss mani

It's the last Tuesday of the month so it's the last wave of polish - Pregnancy and Infant Loss mani I will do for the year. I hope that the wave of polish will make a comeback next year to continue to raise awareness and to allow parents to share their story. I have shared very little here about my own experiences, it's nail blog, but losing our Princess Grace is also a large part of who I am, the person behind the nails. So I want to share you my precious baby girl's foot and hand prints and a poem I wrote for her. We miss her every single day, time builds scar tissue around the wound but the wound is at times knocked again and the enormity of what we lost washes over us.

Little Fingers

Those little fingers that prodded and poked
will never be mine to hold
never for me to be wrapped around
never to turn the pages as stories are told.

The little eyes I never saw opened
will never hold mine in a stare
will never sparkle with laughter
will never show what the soul bears.

The little lips that I gazed upon
never to be pursed for a kiss
will never know a smile
while mine talk of what I miss.

The teeny little feet
never to run away from me
will never feel sand, water or grass
or play five little piggys with glee.

The photos that I'm left with
share these joys of you with me
but they also show me just so much
of what can never nor will ever be.

Wave of Polish - Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness looks

I've gotten a little behind in sharing my manis for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness so today I have two to shared. The first is a basic polka dot pattern on a white background. Super easy to do and super fun to wear.

The second is based off a design by pshiiit. Using just striping tape , it's another easy look. I used Essie Azure for the deeper blue and Essie Borrowed and Blue for the light blue. The dark pink is Essie Off the shoulder and the light pink is butter london Fruit machine.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness day - Wave of Polish

The day is finally here in Australia and it is so nice to see so many people already joining the wave. The number of people who have helped and supported me has been amazing, thank you to each and everyone of you. The auctions still have another 8 1/2 hours to run so don't forget to bid!

I used OPI Mod About Pink and Cate Ruby Sky for this look. I used striping tape for lines, the feet were painted with nail polish as was the ribbon. I used a template for the butterfly. I love the finished look. Keep sending in those manis as it really does show so many families faced with a parent's worst nightmare that they are not alone, and we all remember the precious lives taken too soon.

Wave of Polish Skittlette

It's not pastel pink and blue but is is pink and blue. I used Zoya Son for the blue, the awesome glitter is Emily de Molly Warrior Princess and the pink is piCture pOlish Mad Magenta. I love zigzags and technically while it's not exactly the right shades it was fun to step away from pastels.

Only 48 hours left on wave of polish auctions, don't forget to bid!!

Wave of Polish tape mani

I'm not sure what you call this look, to me it looks kind of like stairs. I just used a piece of zigzag tape at an angle to make the shape. I painted a base of Zoya Trixie, let it dry, then applied tape and added OPI Sparrow me the Drama and China Beat glaze to the taped off sections. Easy but it looks fab!

Enjoy your weekend! Tx

Wave of Polish - Dotting Tool Flowers

I love dotting tool flowers, they don't always turn out perfect but they look so nice. The pretty blue is China Glaze - Electric Beat, the soft pearl like pink is a England - Iseult and flowers are OPI - Mod About You, OPI - Sparrow me the Drama, Cate Ruby - Sky, Zoya - Trixie and Electric Beat again.

Wave of Polish auctions are still going great and it's a privilege to be involved in a community such as the nail art community who are so generous. Don't forget this next Tuesday is Pregnancy and Infant Loss awareness day and we'd love you to do pink and blue nails for the day to expand our Wave of Polish around the world.

Take care, Tx

Wave of Polish - Emily de Molly Candy Coated

I seem to be posting at all different times this week, it's just a matter of finding time between auction updates etc to get a post up. I love this gorgeous creme glitter by Emily de Molly! The blue is a sky blue and the magenta glitter is small and delicate but really pops. It was a breeze to apply over a base of pastel blue. On my ring finger I am wearing piCture pOlish mad Magenta. I did a stamp using the new Emily de Molly plates and a holo but it is very subtle and only shows in the right light.

The Wave of Polish Auctions are still going really well. Thank you to those who have bid. If you haven't looked yet, you really should there are gorgeous polishes over at http://waveofpolishblogspot.com.au

Wave of Polish taped dot mani

I tried out something different and while it looks ok in the end it was one of those days I should have removed everything and tried later. Have you had one of those days? Sometimes no matter what you try, nothing seems to go right. I started with a lovely polka dot  pattern in pink, blue and silver, that part went well. I taped off sections, but then when I painted the tape moved on one nail and another let polish seep through. I had to remove the dots and blue section on the ring finger where the tap moved to start again. Then while I was repainting, Spencer the super puppy decided he needed a closer look at what I was doing so jumped up and knocked the brush and polish went all over my finger, some on Spencer and he left hairs in the wet polish. So I had to start again. I swiped carefully with a soft brush dipped in acetone to remove the seepage so it looks not so bad in the end but it was incredibly frustrating!!

The Wave of Polish Auctions have got off to a flying start and after the first day of bidding we have around $2000 in bids for SANDS Australia. It's so exciting and far beyond my expectations. If you haven't looked yet, you really should there are gorgeous polishes over at http://waveofpolishblogspot.com.au

Have a great Wednesday, Tx

Even though I dislike visible nail line (VNL) I couldn't not use Zoya Grace.

International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month

This is a cause very close to my heart. While I have seen some beautiful breast cancer manicures this month I haven't yet seen one for International Pregnancy and Infant Loss  Awareness month. So I got out my pink and blue polishes and came up with this in honour of our beautiful daughter Grace.

There are some scars that can’t be seen by the eye

Some wounds that will never heal

Some hurts that time will never mend

And broken hearts with pieces missing that will never be whole again.

October 15th is International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness day.

Each year in Australia approximately 58,000 couples
experience reproductive loss: About 55,000 experience early pregnancy loss,
1,750 babies are stillborn
and about 900 babies die in the first twenty-eight days after birth (source SANDS Australia)

I used Opi's breast cancer support polish - I Think in Pink on all fingers but the ring
On the ring I used Opi - Mod about you
The blue details are China Glaze flyin High.

It was fun but also hard as I wanted it to be just right. The hearts are done using a dotting tool and
I finally had success with stripping tape to do the stripes. I free-handed the ribbon, certainly not great but for
my first time trying to free hand a design I was happy enough with it.
