Nails for World Refugee Month

What does painting your nails for a cause actually do? It's a question I've seen before and no, none of us think we will find a cure for cancer or stop violence etc but it is a way the nail community can help raise awareness and show our support. I've only just realised it's world refugee month and while my blog isn't a place for political debate I want to encourage everyone to not just listen to the media but do some of your own research on asylum seekers. I believe you will be very surprised at the facts. Kochie whether you like him or not has some of the best articles written in a clear manner and while these date to the last election the information is still very relevant.

I chose the beautiful Zoya Phoebe for my blue mani.

Celestial Cosmetics - Passion Pop

This is the last polish from the Whimsical Collection I have to show you before it launches tomorrow!! This one is a gorgeous creme glitter named Passion Pop. I really adore the formula of Celestial Cosmetics creme glitters, they have just the right amount of glitter and the creme is so silky smooth. I am wearing two coats over Essie Bangle Jangle. Passion Pop has a lovely soft lilac base with small  and larger hex violet glitter with bright pink round glitter (ROUND I love round glitter!!). Dry time was great and this polish smoothed out beautifully.

Celestial Cosmetics are proud of the fact that all our Nail Polish is 3 Free (Toluene, Formaldehyde and DBP Free) and lovingly hand mixed.  Celestial Cosmetics polishes are priced at RRP $8.95 for 12ml.

One year

This isn't a post to show a new polish or a nail art I've accomplished this is a mani I needed to do. It's one year today since my beautiful sister-in-law passed away unexpectedly. I've missed her every day of this year. I'll never forget the things she taught me and will never stop longing to hear her laugh. Hug your family today, tell them you love them as none of us know what tomorrow may bring.

To live in hearts we leave behind Is not to die.
Thomas Campbell (1777-1844, Scottish poet)

I'm spending a little more time now with the things that mean a little bit more
I'm noticing the wonders of this world
I love with a little more hope now
I live with a little more peace
Cause I understand how precious life can be

Polish is Essie - Bond with Whomever, text is Barry M nail art pen, Wing decals from ebay.

Essie - Naughty Nautical

Squee I'm in love!! This new green from Essie is to die for! It has a gorgeous shimmer that shows really well on the nail and being a green fan I just love, love, love it! The formula is superb and it could be a one coater if you don't mind a thick coat. I have used 3 thin coats for this look. My ring finger is Nubar White Tip with stripes of Naughty Nautical. The black heart is a nail polish decal, it's simply nail polish painted on baking paper, left to dry and then you use a hole puncher to punch out shapes. Google it and you'll be sure to find a tutorial. I love this look and received lots of compliments.

So pleased it's finally Saturday, enjoy your weekend! Tx

Celestial Cosmetics - Rose Gold

The fifth polish from Celestial Cosmetics Whimsical Collection is Rose Gold. This polish is a gorgeous colour, on the cusp of red it is a very deep orange. I have used two coats over a base colour of Zoya Tamsen. This polish sparkles far more than my photos show and it's been difficult to take a great photo of it. Rose Gold is definitely one of those polishes that sparkle on your nails and always draws attention to your nails. This polish has gold flakies and tiny gold hex glitter throughout. It applied beautifully and drying time was good. It truly is gorgeous and unique to anything else I own.

Celestial Cosmetics are proud of the fact that all our Nail Polish is 3 Free (Toluene, Formaldehyde and DBP Free) and lovingly hand mixed.  Celestial Cosmetics polishes are priced at RRP $8.95 for 12ml.

Celestial Cosmetics - Neon Nights

Today I have polish number 4 from Celestial Cosmetics Whimsical Collection. This one is called Neon Nights and is a gorgeous creme glitter. With a white creme base Neon Nights has just the right amount of neon red, blue and green glitter. It's so pretty and has made me feel a little bit summery whilst in the middle of a cold snap. As with the other creme glitter I swatched from Celestial Cosmetics it applied like a dream. There was no fishing for glitter they were all in each brush stroke. I am wearing two coats here over a base of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls. You don't have to have a base coat and I'm sure this would be opaque in two coats, I just like to have a base colour.  Drying time was great and this is a really fun cute polish.

A reminder that this collection launches on July 1st via Celestial Cosmetics website. Also don't forget to head over to their facebook page and name the gorgeous pastel orange creme I showed earlier, you then are in with a chance of winning three polishes.

Have a fabulous Thursday, Tx

Celestial Cosmetics - Liquid Lawn

Today I have the third polish from Celestial Cosmetic's Whimsical Collection to show you. Wow, that's all I can keep saying with this stunning polish, just wow, wow, wow. Now you know I love green so that's an immediate wow but the blend of glitters and colours in this polish is excellent. To me it's breathtaking and I really don't ever want to take it off!

The jelly base is a gorgeous deep emerald green, it has large turquoise holo dots, with smaller lime green dot glitter (dot glitter - love) and small hex turquoise glitter. The combination is just so stunning, I hope my photos do it justice.

Now the creator, the ever talented Nicki asked for my feedback on this one as she had some reservation about the larger dots. I had no problems in having at least two large dots on every brush dip. I do however always turn a glitter polish upside down for about two hours before use, this makes the glitters much easier to get out. I love that Celestial Cosmetic's polishes aren't all glitter bombs, some polishes these days, at least for me, just have too much glitter. I did ask Nicki to consider adding some more of the smaller pieces, not to turn it into a bomb but I did have to work a little to have an adequate amount of smaller pieces on each nail. I also said to add some more larger dots just to be sure. As a designer Nicki is a star and is more than happy to receive feedback (have to love that about a creator) so she is adding in the extra glitters. The finished product I don't think will look much different to this, it will just involve less work in placing the smaller glitter.

I am so impressed with every polish I've used in this collection. I still have three more to share with you, but starting jotting down that this collection launches on July 1st as you really need to add some of these polishes to your collection. Also don't forget to head over to their facebook page and name the gorgeous pastel orange creme I showed earlier, you then are in with a chance of winning three polishes.

Have a fabulous Wednesday!! Tx

Happy birthday to my bestest nail friend

I love everything nail related, Love polishes and art, new collections and new creators but the single greatest thing I love about nails is the nail community. Not only do you find our hints and tips, or see new collections there is something so wonderful in being able to share your obsession with like minded people. You can break a nail and instead of the you've gone crazy looks I get at home, there are so many women who understand and empathise with me. My greatest 'find' since starting  my nail passion is not a hard to find polish, or a super technique, it's not even that amazing polish colour that suits your skin so beautifully. My greatest find is my dear nail buddy friend Natalia from Cats n Nails.

Natalia is the most generous, funny, kind lady you could come across. I don't remember what made us first 'click' but we did and haven't looked back. Natalia's responsible for making me smile on some of the toughest days when a surprise nail package arrives in the mail. She's always there if I want to chat about anything. She tries to teach me how to stamp lol and I just adore her.

So today is Natalia's birthday

Happy birthday Natalia!!!

Natalia wanted birthday nails to help her celebrate, sounds easy doesn't it? I tried to nail her down to a favourite colour and was given "I do like blue, purple, pink and teal, also black, silver and grey". Ahhh too many choices, I tried again a couple of days later and told her she had to give me just ONE - so she went for blurple lol. Only Natalia could fit two colours into one :). So blurple it is with a hint of silver and teal.

For Natalia's birthday skittles I used

Orly - Lunar Eclipse as the base colour
Essie - No Place Like Chrome is the silver used in stamping and dots
Zoya - Akyra is the teal.

Enjoy your birthday my beautiful friend xx

AN Monday - winter

We've had a few very cold starts to the day here recently, so it is the perfect time for a winter mani. Now it doesn't actually snow where I live but an hours drive in any direction will get you to snow,

For this look I used a base colour of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, then added two coats of OPI Happy Anniversary. For the gradient I used both OPI Crown me Already and Pirouette My Whistle.

I like the overall look, even though white isn't one of my favourite nail colours.

Ahhhh Monday again, le sigh Tx

Celestial Cosmetics - Silk Sapphire

Silk Sapphire is the second polish I have to show you out of Celestial Cosmetics new Whimsical Collection. Silk Sapphire is in a sheer slightly blue tinted base that has silver hex glitter and small blue hex glitters. This one is unique to my collection and is a great glitter topper to add some wow factor to your nails. I love blue and the glitter used in this polish is a gorgeous sapphire blue, a perfect jewel colour that is on trend right now. I have used two coats here over a base colour of Essie Avenue Maintain. Silk Sapphire applied easily using the dabbing method and was smooth with one coat of top coat. The drying time was a little slower than the orange creme but still good.

Celestial Cosmetics are proud of the fact that all our Nail Polish is 3 Free (Toluene, Formaldehyde and DBP Free) and lovingly hand mixed.  Celestial Cosmetics polishes are priced at RRP $8.95 for 12ml.

Celestial Cosmetics - New Range and a chance to win polish!

I'd like to introduce you to a new australian Indie brand, Celestial Cosmetics. They are about to launch their second range of polishes called The Whimsical Collection on the 1st of July. The first polish I'm going to share with you is a gorgeous creme glitter in a bright pastel orange. I know they sound like contradictory words but it is the best explanation to describe the gorgeous soft orange colour that has a hint of pizazz. The polish has matte hex glitter in a deeper orange and white and contains smaller deep orange glitter specks. I love that it's not over loaded on glitter and the base colour is the perfect accompaniment to the glitters chosen. It was a breeze to apply and I have used two coats here over a base of Illamasqua Purity. Drying time was great and the glitter needed very little work. It is so pretty on my nails with everything I love, a silky smooth creme in a soft colour and just the right amount of glitter that adds a pop to my nails.

Now the exciting part is that this polish doesn't have a name yet and Celestial Cosmetics would like your help in giving it one. If the name you have given is chosen as the winner you will be given three polishes of your choice from either of the Celestial Cosmetics ranges.

Celestial Cosmetics are proud of the fact that all our Nail Polish is 3 Free (Toluene, Formaldehyde and DBP Free) and lovingly hand mixed.  Celestial Cosmetics polishes are priced at RRP $8.95 for 12ml.

Visit their facebook page to give this gorgeous polish a name! You can browse and purchase from the current collection at the Celestial Cosmetics website. I will have more polishes from the Whimsical Collection to share with you in the next week.

Mosaic Nail Art

I really like this style, it was fiddly but I'm pleased with the final look. I started with a base of China Glaze I'm not Lion, then two coats of top coat as this stop the colours from looking bumpy. I gave it time to dry fully as  when using striping tape you don't want to pull any of the base coat off. Then I taped randomly with striping tape and filled in the gaps with a small nail art brush. One more coat of top coat and it's done.

Colours used are from the Zoya Stunning Collection

Yellow is Darcy
Blue is Rocky
Green is Josie
Pink is Micky
Orange is Thandie

Yay it's the weekend, I hope you have a good one! Tx
